Most people who procrastinate did not do so overnight. Like any other bad habit, procrastination starts small and builds itself up. Even so, returning to a more dependable lifestyle however is possible.

Follow these simple steps below to start taking control of your procrastination.

Step #1 Start Small

Usually if people procrastinate in their business lives they also procrastinate in their personal life too and vice versa.

Start small by making an everyday list to do. Examples include, but are not limited to; taking out the trash, doing the dishes, hanging up clothes, and maybe even littler things like making the bed or tidying up the living room. When you have things under control at a personal level it is easier to get things under control at a business level.

Getting yourself into the routine of not putting things off at home will be difficult since the home is the easiest place to procrastinate: it is always there, you always have an extra day to work on it, and no one besides you or those who live you will know what you are putting off.

However, if you have noticed, the places that we feel most comfortable in are the easiest to begin a bad habit and also the hardest place to get rid of that bad habit.

A smoker's hardest place to deal with is their personal space and yours is too. So take control and shape yourself up at home to start the process of stopping procrastination.

Step #2 Take control at work

No doubt if you are a procrastinator at home then you usually have things piling up at work to do or you find yourself at the end of the day hurrying to get things done that you should have done that morning or the day before.

Well stop that!

Make a list, just like you did for at home. Start the day by making a list of things you must check off by a certain time in the day. For example, say you want to get the reports done on time that usually you put off until the end of the day. Make a list and note that reports must be checked off by 10:00 that morning.

At first you may find yourself racing and checking off that item on the list right at ten or slightly before but keep at it and you just might find yourself checking off your list long before the time its due!

Practice makes perfect and the more you practice and being on time the easier it gets and soon it becomes as second habit as procrastination is or hopefully used to be.

Step #3 Weigh up the guilty consequences

You know how mad you feel or even embarrassed when you have pushed yourself to the last minute or even past the last minute?

Whenever you feel yourself giving into the urge to procrastinate just remember that feeling and predict how you will feel the next day when you are faced with your normal circumstances. Plus those tasks you have avoided and waited to do. This can be a very simple form of self discipline but a very effective one.

Stopping procrastination isn't always easy but it can be done. Follow these steps diligently; just be careful not to put them off until tomorrow!

Lesson 1: A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up her shower, when the doorbell rings.
The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs downstairs.
When she opens the door, there stands Bob , the next-door neighbor..
Before she says a word, Bob says, 'I'll give you $800 to drop that towel.'
After thinking for a moment, the woman drops her towel and stands naked in front of Bob , after a few seconds, Bob hands her $800 and leaves.
The woman wraps back up in the towel and goes back upstairs.
When she gets to the bathroom, her husband asks, 'Who was that?'
'It was Bob the next door neighbour,' she replies.
'Great,' the husband says, 'did he say anything about the $800 he owes me?'

Moral of the story: If you share critical information pertaining to credit and risk with your shareholders in time, you may be in a position to prevent avoidable exposure.
Lesson 2: A sales rep, an administration clerk, and the manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp.
They rub it and a Genie comes out. The Genie says, 'I'll give each of you just one wish.' 'Me first! Me first!' says the admin clerk 'I want to be in the Bahamas , driving a speedboat, without a care in the world.' Puff! She's gone.
'Me next! Me next!' says the sales rep. 'I want to be in Hawaii , relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of Pina Coladas and the love of my life.' Puff! He's gone.
'OK, you're up,' the Genie says to the manager. The manager says, 'I want those two back in the office after lunch'

Moral of the story:
Always let your boss have the first say.
Lesson 3 An eagle was sitting on a tree resting, doing nothing.
A small rabbit saw the eagle and asked him, 'Can I also sit like you and do nothing?' The eagle answered: 'Sure, why not.'
So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the eagle and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on th e rabbit and ate it.

Moral of the story:
To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up.
Lesson 4 A turkey was chatting with a bull.
'I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree' sighed the turkey, 'but I haven't got the energy.' 'Well, why don't you nibble on some of my droppings?' replied the bull. They're packed with nutrients..'
The turkey pecked at a lump of dung, and found it actually gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree.
The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch.
Finally after a fourth night, the turkey was proudly perched at t he top of the tree.
He was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot him out of the tree.
Moral of the story:
Bull Shit might get you to the top, but it won't keep you there.

Lesson 5
A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field.
While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him.
As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realize how warm he was.
The dung was actually thawing him out!
He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy. A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate.
Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him.

Morals of the story:
(1) Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy.
(2) Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend.
(3 ) And when you're in deep shit, it's best to keep your mouth shut!

THUS ENDS THE FIVE MINUTE MANAGEMENT COURSE

When we were discussing something, one of my friends told me something. Thats what inspired me to post this. He said - "May be you wont get what you dreamt of, But you will never get something bigger than that."
I've heard many great personalities telling us to 'Dream Big'. APJ Abdul Kalaam says in his book - "Dream, dream, dream. Dreams turn into thoughts and thougths turn into actions."
Now I am starting to understand what he meant. We should dream really, really, really BIG because you are never going to get something bigger than your dreams.
Think it for yourself -
If someone dreams of just passing the exams, Can he ever get the first rank ?
If someone dreams to be simply a good driver, Can he ever be a Schumacher ?
If someone dreams to buy a Ford, Will he ever buy a Rolls Royce ?
And I think only if we set our goals up in the sky, You will make it atleast to the top of a hill.
I think that's because.... I dont know if you have noticed... But.... When we have to jump a very low hurdle, we wont jump too high. (Atleast I don't). We will make a jump just enough to cross the hurdle. If we think some subject is really easy, Will we ever start studying one month before the exams ? Atleast I don't.
Yeah that's it - It is just human insinct to do things in the minimum possible way.
That IS what happens in the case of goals too. If you want to be something, You will make an effort just enough to be that. So only if you want to be BIG and really BIG, you are gonna be BIG (Or atleast large). So set your goals UP IN THE SKIES.
So I say it again - DREAM BIG...
